What is Velva?
A sonic dermaplaning pen. It has a fine edge that gently vibrates, so it glides over your skin and lifts fine hair and dry skin in one pass. It has 3 speeds, a small LED light and a charging dock.
Will the hair grow back thicker or darker?
No. Mayo Clinic says shaving doesn't change hair's thickness, colour or rate of growth. Regrowth can feel a little blunt at first, because the tip is cut flat. That's all.
Does it work on chin hairs, not just fuzz?
Yes. It removes hair at the surface, so it works on chin and upper-lip hairs as well as fuzz. Hair grows back like it does after shaving, which is why most people use it once a week.
How often should I use it?
Once a week suits most people. Some do chin and lip twice a week. Give your skin a rest if it feels tender.
Can I use it on my whole face?
Yes: cheeks, chin, upper lip, jawline and forehead. Keep it away from your eyes and eyelids.
Can I use it if I have breakouts?
Not over them. Skip any area with active breakouts, cuts, sunburn or irritation. Go around those spots, or wait until they've settled.
Which way do I stroke?
Hold it at about 45°. Use short, light strokes, usually downward. Don't press, and don't go over the same spot again and again.
Does it hurt? Can it cut me?
It shouldn't hurt. Use it on clean, dry skin and go slowly the first time. Like any blade, it can nick if you rush or press hard.
Is it OK for sensitive skin?
Do a small patch test first. If you use strong exfoliating products, give your skin a few days off before you dermaplane.
How often do I change the blade?
Every session. Each blade is single use, so a weekly routine uses about four a month.
